In questa seconda giornata di qualifiche sul circuito britannico di Brands Hatch, il team Kawasaki PSG-1 Corse, deve affrontare il problema principale riscontrato in entrambe le moto dei propri piloti Regis Laconi e Makoto Tamada. La notevole coppia del motore causa l’impennamento delle ZX-10R derivate di serie a discapito del feeling con anteriore.

Ora lo scopo del team di San Marino è trovare un set up adeguato all’esuberanza della coppia del motore, che possa aiutare i propri piloti a riacquistare il feeling perso e sfruttare a pieno la potenza delle cattive.

Nei box del team il clima non è certamente sereno e non si respira entusiasmo, ma c’è una costante sempre ben presente: la determinazione nell’affrontare anche questo delicato periodo.

Saturday – Superpole

The Kawasaki PSG-1 Corse team today had to face the main problem which was identified by both riders, Regis Laconi and Makoto Tamada, on this second day of qualifying at Brands Hatch. The huge power of engine makes the ZX-10R wheelie far too much thus causing a bad feeling with the front tyre.

The team’s goal for tomorrow morning’s warm up now is to find an adequate set up that can help the riders to find again the feeling they lost and take full advantage of the bikes engine power.

In the pit garage the atmosphere isn’t obviously light but there is everyone in the team is determined to solve this problem.

Domenica – Gare

Il team Kawasaki PSG-1 Corse mostra segnali di ripresa in questo giorno di gara sul circuito britannico di Brands Hatch. La costanza e la tenacia della squadra sammarinese restituisce ai piloti il feeling perso.

Nonostante la dura partenza, dovuta ad una pista stretta ed ad una posizione in griglia poco vantaggiosa, 7a fila,  Makoto Tamada finisce entrambe le gare in 18a posizione.

In gara 1, Regis Laconi rimane vittima di una caduta a causa di un problema tecnico, ma riesce a limitare i danni in gara 2, concludendo la manche in 16a piazza.

REGIS LACONI #55: “ Sono davvero dispiaciuto di essere caduto in gara 1 quando, a tre giri dalla fine, entrando nell’ ultima curva, non mi è entrata la marcia e la moto è andata in folle. Quando sono riuscito ad inserire la terza, la moto mi ha disarcionato ed è finita per me la gara. Peccato anche perché nonostante il dolore al polso, ho tentato di spingere il più possibile, recuperando posizioni e raggiungendo la 15a  al momento della caduta. In gara 2, ho provato più volte ad agire esternamente, ma purtroppo senza risultato in quanto, vedendo i piloti avanti a me stringere la traiettoria, potevo solo chiudere il gas per non scontrarmi. Spero che il polso sia totalmente guarito per il prossimo round che si terrà a Donington, per poter dare il 100%”.

MAKOTO TAMADA #100: “ Questo è stato un week end davvero difficile per tutta la squadra, è partito male sin dall’inizio ed ottenere dei buoni risultati, nonostante il duro lavoro, non ci è stato possibile. Oggi posso dire che il feeling con la ZX-10R era migliorato rispetto ai giorni scorsi per cui, ho provato a spingere quanto potevo senza però rischiare di finire a terra. Dopo le ferie ci aspetta il prossimo round per il quale abbiamo già previsto nuovi set up in termini di sospensioni e geometrie”.

Sunday – Races

The Kawasaki PSG-1 Corse team shows signs of resumption on this day of race on the British track in Brands Hatch. The tenacity and determination of the team of San Marino gives to the riders the feeling back.

Makoto Tamada finishes both races in 18th position although the hard start due to his place on the grid, he started from the 7th row, and because of the narrowness of the track.

In race 1 Regis Laconi crashes because of a technical problem and in race 2 he places in 16th position.

REGIS LACONI #55: “I’m really sorry for the crash in race 1 as it happened just at 3 laps from the end. I was entering the last curve when I had some problem with the gear. It’s a pity because I was pushing really hard and gaining positions even if my wrist was really hurting. I was in the 15th place when I crashed. In race 2 I tried few times to overpass externally but when I saw that the riders in front of me were tightening I just could slow down  in order to avoid  another crash. I hope my wrist will be ok for next round in Donington as I really want to give my 100%”.

MAKOTO TAMADA #100: “ This has been a very difficult week end for the whole team from the beginning and it has been impossible to obtain good results. The positive thing is that I felt more confident  today with the ZX-10R compared to these last days so I tried to push as hard as I could without taking too many risks because I wanted to finish the races. After the holidays we are going to compete for next round in Donington and we already have good ideas concerning suspensions and frame geometry”.

Venerdì – Qualifiche 1ª sessione

Due situazioni diverse quelle riscontrate durante questo primo giorno di qualifiche sul circuito inglese di Brands Hatch per i piloti del team Kawasaki PSG-1 Corse.

Regis Laconi  non riesce a sfruttare a pieno le proprie potenzialità a causa del dolorante polso, dovuto ad una caduta sul circuito di Brno.  Inoltre la mancanza di grip, sia sul posteriore che sull’anteriore, non aiuta il pilota francese a raggiungere un buon feeling con la ZX-10R.

Makoto Tamada scende su questo circuito oggi  per la prima volta. Ad inizio campionato il pilota nipponico riteneva che questo round sarebbe stato il più importante in termini di difficoltà ed oggi ne ha avuto piena conferma.

REGIS LACONI #55: “ Dopo solo qualche giro, il polso ha cominciato a farmi davvero male e, per non rischiare di compromettere la giornata di domenica, ho preferito non forzare troppo la mano, concentrandomi piuttosto sul comportamento della moto su questo tracciato e devo dice che, eccetto la mancanza di grip, sia sul posteriore che sull’anteriore, la moto non ha problematiche particolari. Domani continueremo a lavorare per migliorare il feeling concentrandoci sul controllo di freno motore ed intervenendo sulle geometrie della moto”.

MAKOTO TAMADA #100: “  Ad inizio stagione avevo la sensazione che questo circuito sarebbe stato davvero complicato, ed oggi percorrendolo, ne ho avuto la conferma. Nonostante la sua complessità il tracciato mi piace molto e credo che,  una volta apportate le dovute modifiche al settaggio di base ed aumentando il ritmo, sarà davvero entusiasmante. Il team ha lavorato ottimamente dandomi, in questo primo giorno di qualifiche, una moto adeguata per lo studio della pista. Di certo il risultato odierno non è competitivo ma domani, miglioreremo sicuramente le nostre prestazioni perché sento maggior feeling giro dopo giro”.

Friday – Qualifying 1st session

There were two different situations for the Kawasaki PSG-1 Corse’s riders in this first day of qualifying at the English track of Brands Hatch.

Regis Laconi cannot take full advantage of his potential because of the pain he is still suffering in his wrist after the crash he had during last round in Brno. Besides this he also feels a lack of grip from both the front and rear tyres which stops him from having a good feeling with the Kawasaki ZX-10R.

It is the first time that Makoto Tamada has visited Brands Hatch and his initial feeling is he considers it a really difficult track to learn.

REGIS LACONI #55: “After few laps my wrist started to hurt a lot and I preferred not to push too hard so not to compromise my race day. I focused on the bike’s setup for this track and I can say that except for the lack of grip the bike doesn’t have any particular problems.  Tomorrow we will continue to work on general improvement, focusing on engine-braking control and sorting the bike frame geometry”.

MAKOTO TAMADA #100: “At the beginning of the season I thought that this track would have been very difficult to learn and today I’ve got confirmation of that. Even though it’s really complex I like it and today I learned a lot about it increasing my feeling on the bike.  The team did a great job as they gave me perfect settings for the track. Of course I’m not happy about the result I achieved today but we can surely improve it as I’m getting more and more feeling with the bike lap after lap”.
