Friday – Qualifying 1st session

It hasn’t been one of the best days for the Kawasaki PSG-1 Corse team today at Brno track in Czech Republic.

Regis Laconi and Makoto Tamada placed respectively 19th and 25th in the free practice of the morning because of some technical problems that bothered them. Makoto Tamada started the session with a clutch problem but the team’s  technicians solved it quickly. Unfortunately the lack of grip didn’t permit him to reach the results he wanted to achieve.

The gap is a problem that even Regis accused, but he faced it with determination and signed the 16th time in the qualifying session of the afternoon entering in the provisory Superpole.

REGIS LACONI #55: “ It’s the first time that I face a track with such difficulty. The asphalt doesn’t help to solve the grip problems as the tyres wears away from the first laps, especially the front one. I seriously risked during the qualifying session of the afternoon but I really wanted to be among the first 16 and I succeeded in it. We absolutely have to find something to improve the feeling and reduce the gap from the firsts”.

MAKOTO TAMADA #100: “ In the first free practice session in the morning I found something wrong with the clutch but the team promptly solved it. Unfortunately the lack of grip didn’t permit me to reach better results. In the first qualifying session in the afternoon  we used a longer swing arm and honestly I felt an improvement. Anyway we couldn’t recover the gap we had from the first riders as they improved too. I hope the weather will be clement tomorrow in order to be able to take full advantage of the margin of improvement we have”.

FRANCESCO MASTRANDREA (Technical Director): “ Both riders accused the lack of grip equally on the front and rear tyre. This track is not giving us the results we thought to achieve. Maybe we have to change strategy and we are already valuating in which direction we shall go. We have margin of improvement and we are working to take full advantage of it”.

Il team Kawasaki PSG-1 Corse accetta con difficoltà i risultati ottenuti in questa giornata, nettamente da dimenticare, sul circuito di Brno, Repubblica Ceca.

In gara 1 il pilota francese, Regis Laconi, rimane vittima di un tamponamento e vede sfumare le sue possibilità, mentre, il nipponico Makoto Tamada si piazza in 16a posizione ed arriva  17o  in gara 2.

Regis Laconi dà grandi speranze al team all’inizio della seconda manche portandosi in 11a piazza già dal primo giro, ma al 3°, spinge troppo la sua ZX-10R e cade nuovamente, scivolando sullo sporco di bordo pista.

REGIS LACONI #55: “ Sicuramente oggi ho apprezzato un buon miglioramento delle prestazioni della moto rispetto ai giorni scorsi. In gara 1 sono caduto dopo essermi scontrato con Smrz. In gara 2 ho voluto spingere al massimo sin dal primo giro e mi sono subito portato in una buona posizione raggiungendo l’ 11a piazza. Una buona performance considerando che partivo 21° in griglia di partenza. Purtroppo sono entrato molto veloce nella prima curva del 3° giro ed in uscita sono scivolato sullo sporco della pista. E’ stata una brutta caduta ma fortunatamente ne sono uscito illeso a parte un leggero dolore al polso”.

MAKOTO TAMADA #100: “ Non trovando un setting adeguato a questo tracciato, non sono riuscito ad ottenere i risultati che tanto speravo di regalare al team dopo tutto il lavoro svolto. Le posizioni raggiunte oggi  non sono certamente i risultati che desidero. Siamo consapevoli di essere ancora lontano dai primi in classifica, ma ciò non ci toglie la determinazione per arrivare al nostro obiettivo. Ora attendo con ansia di competere a Brands Hatch, e sebbene sia un tracciato nuovo per me, la voglia di lavorare a stretto contatto col team per ritrovare il feeling perso con la ZX-10R  è tanta”.

Sunday – Races

The Kawasaki PSG-1 Corse team doesn’t accept so easily the results achieved in this day at Brno track, Czech Republic.

In race 1 the French rider Regis Laconi is victim of a crash when Smrz hits him, while the Japanese rider Makoto Tamada reaches the 16th placement and arrives 17th in race 2.

At the beginning of the second manche, Regis Laconi gives great hopes to the team achieving the 11th position in the first lap, but during the 3rd one he pushes too much his ZX-10R and crashes again  when he exits from the corner.

REGIS LACONI #55: “ Surely I saw a good improvement of the bike’s performances today but in race 1 I crashed together with Smrz  when he involuntarily hit me. In race 2 I made a good start and reached the 11th position from the first lap. A good performance considering that I was starting from the 21st position but unfortunately I pushed too much entering the curve and I lost control when I opened the gas just after the turn. It has been a bad crash but without  serious consequences except for a light pain of my wrist”.

MAKOTO TAMADA #100: “ As we had some difficulties to find a proper set up for this track I’ve been not able to achieve good results and I really wanted to give some satisfactions to the team after all the technicians did to increase my feeling with the bike. We surely reached better results than in the qualifying session of these last days but we are looking after something better then a 16th or 17th placement. We are aware that we are far away from the first riders but we still are determinate in reaching our goal. Now I’m waiting for Brands Hatch round. It will be the first time for me on that track, anyway I’m willing to work hard with the whole team to restore the feeling we lost with the bike”.

Saturday – Superpole

The hard day just faced by the team from San Marino, Kawasaki PSG-1 Corse, induces the technicians to change strategy. The adjustments made on the ZX-10R which brought several improvements on Nürburgring track, have been vain on this circuit which is more complicated than the team thought.

Positive performance the one achieved by Ayrton Badovini of the satellite team. He closed the 2nd session of qualifying practices in 15th position and tomorrow he will start from the 4th row.

REGIS LACONI #55: “ The lack of stability, especially on the front, doesn’t permit me to reach better results as I don’t feel confident. We are going to check the data we obtained today from telemetry and we’ll change strategy in order to improve the performances of the bike during the warm up session of tomorrow morning”.

MAKOTO TAMADA #100: “ Decisively the situation doesn’t help the team morale, but the technicians are still giving the maximum to restore the bike stability. Today we found a link that helps me to achieve higher speeds in the curves. Tomorrow we’ll try to take full advantage of the few time we still have in the warm up”.

FRANCESCO MASTRANDREA (Technical Director): “ After a first valuation of the acquired data we are sure to change strategy. During these last days we focused on suspensions to give more stability to the ZX-10R. Now we’ll proceed concentrating on telemetry and we are sure to obtain better performances and results”.

Sabato – Superpole

La dura giornata appena affrontata dal team Kawasaki PSG-1 Corse, spinge la squadra sammarinese a cambiare strategia. Le modifiche apportate sulle ZX-10R derivate di serie, che portarono miglioramenti sul circuito di Nürburgring, sono risultate vane su questo tracciato che si è rivelato più complicato di quanto si pensasse.

Positiva la performance di Ayrton Badovini del team satellite della squadra sammarinese,  che si piazza in 15a posizione nella seconda sessione di qualifiche e domani partirà dalla 4a fila in griglia di partenza.

REGIS LACONI #55: “ La mancanza di stabilità in staccata mi mette in crisi. Non ho fiducia sull’anteriore per cui raggiungere un miglior risultato è alquanto difficile. Or la decisione presa è di cambiare strategia dopo aver controllato i dati per migliorare le prestazioni della moto per il warm up di domani mattina”.

MAKOTO TAMADA #100: “ Certamente questa situazione non aiuta il morale della squadra intera che, nonostante tutto, sta dando il massimo per ripristinare la stabilità della moto. Già oggi, sebbene non fossimo nelle condizioni di poterci concentrare sulla velocità, siamo riusciti a trovare un link che mi aiuta ad affrontare con più sicurezza le curve. Domani tenteremo di sfruttare al meglio il tempo a nostra disposizione nel warm up”.

FRANCESCO MASTRANDREA (Direttore Tecnico): “ Dopo una prima valutazione dei dati acquisiti durante la giornata siamo certi di cambiare strategia. Nei giorni precedenti ci siamo concentrati sulla regolazione delle sospensioni per dare più stabilità alle ZX-10R. Ora la nostra concentrazione andrà sull’elettronica, con la certezza di ottenere prestazioni e risultati migliori”.

Venerdì – Qualifiche 1ª sessione

Quella di oggi non è stata una delle giornate migliori per il team Kawasaki PSG-1 Corse sul circuito di Brno, Repubblica Ceca.

Le prove libere del mattino hanno visto i piloti Regis Laconi e Makoto Tamada piazzarsi rispettivamente in 19a e 25a posizione a causa di diversi problemi tecnici. Makoto Tamada ha riscontrato un inconveniente alla frizione che è subito stato risolto dallo staff tecnico della squadra sammarinese, ma la mancanza di grip non gli ha permesso di ottenere i risultati che tanto sperava.

Quest’ultimo è stato un problema denunciato anche dal pilota francese Regis Laconi che ha combattuto con grande grinta ed è riuscito a strappare il 16o tempo nelle qualifiche del pomeriggio, entrando in Superpole provvisoria. 

REGIS LACONI #55: “ E’ la prima volta che affronto un circuito con questa difficoltà. L’asfalto nuovo non aiuta a risolvere i problemi di grip che comincia a diminuire sin dai primi giri, a causa del veloce logorio delle gomme, soprattutto dell’anteriore. Ho rischiato davvero tanto nelle qualifiche del pomeriggio ma volevo assolutamente arrivare tra i primi 16 per essere in Superpole provvisoria e ce l’ho fatta. Dobbiamo escogitare qualcosa per migliorare assolutamente il feeling e diminuire il gap con i primi”.

MAKOTO TAMDA #100: “ Nella prima sessione di prove libere del mattino ho rilevato qualcosa che non andava con la frizione ma il team è riuscito a risolvere subito il problema. Peccato che la mancanza di grip non mi abbia permesso di raggiungere risultati migliori. Nella prima sessione di qualifiche del pomeriggio abbiamo utilizzato un forcellone più lungo per alleviare il problema ed effettivamente ho riscontrato un miglioramento. Nonostante ciò non abbiamo recuperato tanto dai  primi in classifica, anche gli altri team hanno migliorato le proprie prestazioni. Spero che il tempo sia clemente domani per poter sfruttare il margine di miglioramento che abbiamo”.

FRANCESCO MASTRANDREA (Direttore Tecnico): “ Entrambi i piloti hanno accusato una forte mancanza di grip sia sull’anteriore che sul posteriore. Questo tracciato non ci sta portando i risultati sperati, forse dobbiamo prendere decisioni tecniche diverse e stiamo valutando le possibili strade. Crediamo di avere del buon margine di miglioramento e stiamo lavorando per sfruttarlo al meglio”.
