Nurburgring preview

Tutto pronto per il 7° round del Campionato del Mondo Superbike 2008 che si terrà sul circuito Nurburgring.

Una pista, quella tedesca, che con la sua complessità e con la variabilità di meteo regalerà sicuramente delle belle sorprese al pubblico presente e a coloro che seguiranno la gara in tv.

Il team Kawasaki PSG-1 Corse lavora alle possibili soluzioni per portare la ZX-10R alla competitività tanto attesa.

Sulla derivata di serie di Makoto Tamada verranno testate nuove tarature del mono posteriore per risolvere i problemi di chattering accusati dal pilota nipponico nell’ ultima gara sul circuito di Miller, Salt Lake City.

Il lavoro previsto invece dalla squadra del pilota francese Regis Laconi , si concentrerà per confermare il buon risultato ottenuto dall’utilizzo del nuovo forcellone testato sul tracciato americano.

Il direttore tecnico, Francesco Mastrandrea, si dichiara fiducioso; sicuro dei miglioramenti ottenuti dalle ultime verifiche soprattutto in termini di motore ed elettronica, ha deciso di affinare ulteriormente le strategie in questa direzione proprio in occasione della gara su questo tracciato così impegnativo.

At the threshold of the 7th round of the World Superbike Championship 2008 at the Nurburgring, Germany, the Kawasaki PSG-1 Corse team is valuating different  solutions to bring the ZX-10R to the competitiveness that the team  wants to achieve.

The German circuit is complex and with a lot of variables, weather included, and will surely give a lot of surprises to the public.

New calibrations at the rear shock absorber of Makoto Tamada’s bike will be tested to solve the chattering problems he accused during the last round at Miller track in Salt Lake City.

The work on the French rider’s bike  Regis Laconi, will be focused on confirming the good result achieved in Salt Lake City by using the new swing arm. 

The Technical Director Francesco Mastrandrea trusts in the team’s possibilities because sure of last improvements in terms of engine and telemetry and decided to continue to work in the same direction on this hard track.

Sabato – Superpole

Il pilota francese del team Kawasaki PSG-1 Corse rimane vittima di una brutta caduta durante la seconda sessione di qualifiche del mattino sul circuito tedesco Nurburgring. Fortunatamente ne esce con una lieve lesione alla caviglia ed un mignolo rotto che non gli impediscono di salire in sella per la Superpole ottenendo la 13a piazza.

I problemi di grip avvertiti dal pilota nipponico Makoto Tamada nella sessione del mattino lo escludono dal giro veloce ma vengono in parte risolti dal team e si piazza in 16a posizione nelle prove libere del pomeriggio. Nonostante gli inconvenienti di oggi c’è ottimismo nei box in previsione della gara di domani in quanto il pilota è consapevole di avere margine di miglioramento.

REGIS LACONI #55: “ La caduta di stamattina è stata più traumatica psicologicamente che fisicamente perché non ho ben capito cosa sia successo e ritrovare il feeling è stato alquanto difficile. Inoltre abbiamo riscontrato un problema con la frizione nelle prove libere del pomeriggio ma abbiamo già trovato la soluzione ed ora la moto va decisamente meglio. Il tempo è una variabile da tenere ben presente nella decisione delle gomme, ma valuteremo domattina durante il warm up”.

MAKOTO TAMADA #100: “ La giornata non è iniziata molto bene per me ma abbiamo compiuto netti miglioramenti nelle prove libere del pomeriggio dove ho raggiunto un buon feeling con la ZX-10R che mi ha permesso di ottenere un ritmo di gara abbastanza veloce e di mantenerlo. So che sarà difficile stabilire una buona posizione partendo dalla 21a piazza, ma so di avere margine di miglioramento per ridurre il gap. Utilizzeremo il warm up di domattina per concentrarci sulla scelta delle gomme, scelta importante  a causa delle particolari condizioni meteo e di pista”.

Alla fine di questa giornata di gara sul circuito tedesco Nürburgring, Makoto Tamada e Regis Laconi del team Kawasaki PSG-1 Corse portano a casa rispettivamente 10 e 8 punti.

In gara 1 il pilota francese riscontra un problema di feeling con l’anteriore, che affonda troppo in staccata per il suo stile di guida e si piazza in 14a posizione, mentre in gara 2, grazie al lavoro del team che risolve subito il problema, riacquista il feeling con la ZX-10R chiudendo la gara al 10° posto.

Anche il nipponico Makoto Tamada si ritiene soddisfatto dei risultati raggiunti considerando la sua posizione in griglia. Nonostante le partenze non proprio veloci, Makoto è riuscito in entrambe le gare a recuperare posizioni sin da primo giro terminando gara 1 in 9a e gara 2 in 13a piazza.

REGIS LACONI #55: “ In gara 1 ho avuto un problema con l’anteriore che affondava troppo in staccata e non mi permetteva di essere fluido nei movimenti e di inserirmi in curva con la traiettoria giusta non potendo piegare più di tanto. E’ andata meglio in gara 2 dove la squadra, in collaborazione con Öhlins, è riuscita a sistemare il problema rendendo molto più gestibile l’avantreno soprattutto nei cambi di direzione. Purtroppo non ho fatto una buona partenza che ha compromesso il risultato finale ma sono comunque contento perché abbiamo davvero migliorato la stabilità della moto sia nell’anteriore che nel posteriore”.

MAKOTO TAMADA #100: “ In gara 1 ho sbagliato la partenza ma sono riuscito a recuperare diverse posizioni già dalla prima curva spostandomi verso l’interno. Alla fine del primo giro ero già migliorato tanto, poi sono riuscito a mantenere il ritmo per l’intera gara. Ho raggiunto un buon feeling con la moto e la temperatura della pista era perfetta per la scelta di gomme adottata. A metà gara ho provato a raggiungere Nieto ma ero al limite per cui non ho rischiato. Questo tracciato rende abbastanza difficili i sorpassi soprattutto in certi punti e la partenza incerta di gara 2  non mi ha permesso di recuperare abbastanza posizioni per sorpassare il gruppo al quale ero dietro. Nonostante ciò ho voluto spingere perché immaginavo che avrebbero interrotto la gara a causa della pioggia, ma non credevo così presto, e a quel punto recuperare era impossibile. Lavorerò davvero sodo in questi giorni che precedono Misano per regalare soddisfazioni maggiori al team che se lo merita veramente”.

Friday – Qualifying 1st  session

Great beginning achieved by Regis Laconi of Kawasaki PSG-1 Corse team during this first day at Nurburgring, Germany. The French rider finishes the first qualifying session making the 6th time improving the morning performance.

An electronic problem slows down the team job on Makoto Tamada’s bike who doesn’t achieve big results during the morning free practices but closes the gap in 1st qualifying session reaching the 16th placement, thanks to some set up changes and rear shock absorber substitution.

REGIS LACONI #55: “It has been a really positive day for me and the team. We had confirmation that the swing arm used on Miller track in Salt Lake City is the ideal one on this track too. I reached a great feeling both with the front and the rear of the bike and my confidence increased together with the satisfaction I’ve got  riding this powerful ZX-10R”.

MAKOTO TAMADA #100: “ During the morning free practices I had an electronic problem and we lost a lot of time to solve it so I couldn’t study the track as I wanted to. We solve the problem in the afternoon qualifying session where I closed the gap reaching the 16th position.

We tested some set up solutions and we substituted the rear shock absorber which gave us good points to work on in order to reach an ideal set up. Tomorrow I’ll try to improve today’s result s I really want to compete for the Superpole”.

FRANCESCO MASTRANDREA (Technical Director): “ I’m really happy for Regis who confirmed the great feeling he reached with the bike on Miller track, Salt Lake City. The result achieved tells us that the set up we adopted fits with his guide style. Even Makoto is improving the feeling with his ZX-10R but we still have to valuate some aspects in order to take fully advantage of its potentialities”.

Saturday – Superpole

The French rider of Kawasaki PSG-1 Corse team, Regis Laconi was a victim of a bad crash during this morning’s qualifying session at Nürburgring track finishing 10th.  He suffered a broken finger from the crash but this didn’t prevent him from participating on his ZX-10R in Superpole where he made the 13th time.

The Japanese rider Makoto Tamada suffered badly form grip problems during the morning qualifying session which excluded him from Superpole finishing 21st. The problem he believes has been partly solved by his team and he concluded the afternoons free practice session in 16th place.  After today’s difficulties, Makoto is quite confident in his chances for tomorrow’s races as he is sure of finishing well.

REGIS LACONI #55: “This morning’s crash has been not so traumatic for my physical being but more my mental think as I still don’t understood what happened and it has been quite difficult to find the feeling again. We also found a problem with the clutch during this afternoon’s free practice session which we solved and the bike is much better now. I think the weather will be decisive tomorrow as today it has been a real mixture and tyre choice will be difficult, decisions l take tomorrow morning during the warm up.

MAKOTO TAMADA #100: “ I cannot be happy with this morning result, we still are working to find an ideal set up on this particular track. We partly solved the problem before the free practice session this afternoon by changing certain aspects and I reached a good feeling with the bike that has resulted in me being able to find a good race pace and maintain it. I’m quite optimist for tomorrow’s races, I know it will be difficult to finish well starting from the 21st place but we have made improvements and we can close the gap. Tomorrow morning we will use the warm up session to focus on the tyre choice which is quite important considering the strange weather conditions”.

Sunday – Races

At the end of today’s race at the Nürburgring race track, Kawasaki PSG-1 Corse’s riders Makoto Tamada and Regis Laconi took home 10 and 8 points respectively.

In race 1 the French rider Regis Laconi had a problem with the front tyre which descended too much when engaging the clutch and as such finished in 14th. In race 2, thanks to his team’s hard work the problem was solved, he restored his feeling with his ZX-10R and finished the race in 10th position.

Even the Japanese rider Makoto Tamada is satisfied with the results he achieved today considering the grid position he started from.  Although having two bad starts in each race, Makoto recovered from this by reaching 9th place in race 1 and the 13th in race 2 respectively.

REGIS LACONI #55: “In race 1, I had a problem with the front end which was going down too much whenever I grabbed the clutch entering the corners. I just couldn’t be smooth with my movements and it was difficult to take the right trajectory going into the corners. It was definitely much better in race 2, the team solved the problem in collaboration with Öhlins and the front end became much more manageable specially in changing direction. Unfortunately I didn’t make a good start compromising my final result but I’m happy anyway because we improved both the front and the rear of the bike”.

MAKOTO TAMADA #100: “I didn’t start as I wanted too in race 1 but I began to recover positions from the 1st corner when I took the inside line. In this way I reached a good position from the 1st lap maintaining it for the whole race. I had a good feeling with the bike and the temperature was perfect for the tyres I chose. In the middle of the race I started to push even more to reach Nieto but I was at the limit and I didn’t want to take the risk and crash. In race 2 I had another bad start as well and it’s quite difficult to overtake on this track so I was not able to recover so many positions. I thought it may rain so I started to push a bit more but the red flag went out as it start to spit before I could improve anymore. For sure I wanted to achieve a better result but I can be satisfied with my race results considering the grid position I was started from. We’ll work hard during the time before the next round at Misano, I really want to give a great result to the team as it really deserve it and its their home round”.
