Le derivate di serie della Kawasaki PSG-1 Corse sbarcano in America per la 6a tappa del Mondiale Superbike che si disputerà domenica 1 Giugno sul nuovo tracciato di Miller Motorsports Park, a Salt Lake City, nello Utah.

Sarà un week end davvero interessante ed intenso considerando che oltre al  Campionato Mondiale Superbike, gareggerà anche il campionato americano che affronta  il circuito per il terzo anno consecutivo. 

Il team del Titano si è subito messo all’opera per studiare approfonditamente la pista che, secondo il Direttore Tecnico Francesco Mastrandrea, dalle prime ricognizioni, non dovrebbe comportare grosse problematiche e il lavoro di sviluppo apportato alle ZX-10R su tracciati meno veloci sarà certamente di aiuto anche sul circuito americano che presenta curve piuttosto lente.

I piloti attendono le prime prove per poter dare le loro impressioni su questo nuovo tracciato che hanno avuto la possibilità di conoscere solo virtualmente grazie al videogames SBK08 X Box che è stato fornito loro in anteprima proprio per studiare il circuito considerato il migliore in America del Nord.

Kawasaki PSG-1 Corse team disembarks in the USA for the 6th round of 2008 World Superbike Championship which will take place on Sunday June 1th at the new Miller Motorsports Park, in Salt Lake City, Utah.

It will be an interesting and intense weekend considering that, together with the World Championship, the Miller track will be location of the AMA too.

The San Marino-based PSG-1 team started immediately to study the track layout, which shouldn’t be problematic for the ZX-10R says the Technical Director Francesco Mastrandrea.

The green riders wait for first practice to be able to give their considerations about the circuit that they will recognize a little thanks, to the SBK08 X Box game, which has given them a general idea about how the track develops through a lap.

Il team Kawasaki PSG-1 Corse è pronto ad affrontare il 6o round del Campionato del Mondo Superbike 2008 che, dopo 4 anni, torna in America su un circuito nuovo, nato appena nel 2006 a pochi chilometri da Salt Lake City, Utah.

Regis Laconi stabilisce da subito un buon feeling con il tracciato e segna il 4o tempo nella sessione di prove libere del mattino, tempo che non riesce a mantenere nelle qualifiche del pomeriggio, a causa del forte grip che innesca il chattering.

Il pilota nipponico Makoto Tamada migliora le sue prestazioni nelle qualifiche del pomeriggio guadagnandosi la 12a posizione.  

Ottima la prestazione di Ayrton Badovini del team Kawasaki Pedercini che raggiunge la 9a posizione ed anche lui entra in Superpole provvisoria.

REGIS LACONI #55: “Il tracciato mi si addice molto, mi da un buon feeling e nelle prove libere sono riuscito a ottenere il 4otempo. Il circuito di Miller ha un ottimo livello di sicurezza ed un buonissimo grip, purtroppo quest’ultimo ha condizionato la mia performance e quella di altri piloti  nella sessione di qualifiche perché assieme a lui è aumentato di conseguenza il chattering. Domani proveremo col cambiare un forcellone e cercheremo di migliorare la situazione odierna, ritornando a chiudere l’ottimo tempo della mattinata di oggi”.

MAKOTO TAMADA #100:“ Ho avuto dei grandissimi problemi ad abituarmi al nuovo tracciato mai visto prima, chiudendo il turno della mattina senza raggiungere nessun buon risultato.

Nel pomeriggio,dopo aver studiato e capito il tracciato e, a seguito dell’ottimo lavoro della squadra, sono riuscito a strappare un buon tempo nelle qualifiche.

Dobbiamo ancora lavorare per raggiungere un feeling maggiore in curva piena, ma abbiamo un buon margine di miglioramento che sfrutteremo al meglio in questi due giorni”.

FRANCESCO MASTRANDREA (Direttore Tecnico): “Abbiamo riscontrato i soliti problemi di chattering sulla moto di Regis, ma abbiamo già previsto una soluzione al problema che testeremo domani.

Tamada ed il suo team si stanno concentrando per trovare una rapportatura ideale per questo circuito.

Oggi abbiamo lavorato sull’aerodinamicità delle moto ed i vetrini testati hanno dato buoni risultati. Inoltre sulle due ZX-10R sono state testate nuove configurazioni motore e domani potremo trarre le nostre conclusioni in merito agli sviluppi.

Una scelta importante il previsione di gara è quella delle gomme, infatti un problema riscontrato da tutti i team, è l’eccessivo deterioramento dei pneumatici dovuto al grande grip del circuito”.

Primi approcci con il circuito statunitense

Friday – Qualifying 1st  session

The Kawasaki PSG-1 Corse team is ready to face the 6th round of World Superbike Championship 2008 which returns in the USA, after 4 years, at a new track opened in 2006 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Regis Laconi reachs a good feeling with the track from the beginning scoring the 6th position during morning’s free practices. Unfortunately he doesn’t maintain the result in the first  qualifying session of the afternoon because of the increasing of grip that brings with it the chattering too.

The Japanese rider Makoto Tamada improves his result in the qualifying session of the afternoon gaining the 12th position.

Great performance the one shown by Ayrton Badovini who signs the 9th time taking part to the provisory Superpole.

REGIS LACONI #55: “ The track follows my guide style and gives me a good feeling. I reached the 4th position in free practices this morning. Miller track is highly secure and the grip is really good, unfortunately during the qualifying session in the afternoon, the grip was so present that brought  too much chattering and this conditioned my performance and the one of other riders. Tomorrow we will test a swing arm and we’ll try to improve today’s situation returning to score a good result as we did this morning”.

MAKOTO TAMADA #100: “I had difficulties to get used to the new track never seen before and I closed this morning session without any satisfying result. I studied and understood the circuit in the afternoon and I made something quite good scoring the 12th position. We still have to work  to reach a better feeling in bends but we have a good improvement edge that we want to take fully advantage of during these two days”.

FRANCESCO MASTRANDREA (Technical Director): “Regis’ ZX-10R has the same chattering problem as always  but we’re already working on a solution for that and we’ll test it tomorrow. Tamada and his team are focusing to find the ideal setting of the gearbox for this track. Today we worked on bike’s aerodynamic properties and we reached good results with the  new screens adopted. Besides  we tried new engine’s configurations on both the ZX-10R. Tomorrow we will take our consideration on the developments.  Tyre’s choice will be an important decision for all the teams  as the tires damage a lot because of the strong grip”.

Una giornata ricca di soddisfazioni per il pilota francese Regis Laconi del team Kawasaki PSG-1 Corse che,  sul tracciato di Salt Lake City, Utah, risolve i problemi di chattering e migliora portandosi in seconda fila per la gara di domenica.

Meno soddisfatto delle sue prestazioni Makoto Tamada che viene colto di sorpresa dal chattering, del quale non si era mai preoccupato, e si schiererà in 18a piazza sulla griglia di partenza.

Buone prestazioni raggiunte da Ayrton Badovini del team Kawasaki Pedercini che si classifica sedicesimo e partirà dalla 4a fila.

REGIS LACONI #55: “Sono veramente contento della mia prestazione e del grande lavoro della squadra. Abbiamo montato lo stesso forcellone utilizzato per la gara di Monza, ma i risultati ottenuti su questo tracciato sono molto più convincenti.

Oggi siamo riusciti ad eliminare quasi completamente il chattering che mi impediva di guidare come volevo.

Inoltre abbiamo trovato il setting ideale per questo tracciato, che regala alla moto grande stabilità rendendola molto più gestibile, ed ho così chiuso la 2a  sessione di qualifiche con un ottimo 3° tempo.

Nel giro lanciato della superpole ho migliorato ulteriormente il tempo del mattino, conquistando la seconda fila per la gara di domani.

Ho un buon passo gara, per cui domenica sarò molto competitivo, voglio raggiungere le prime posizioni regalando soddisfazioni al mio team”.

MAKOTO TAMADA #100: “Sono state provate molte regolazioni, ma non siamo riusciti ad eliminare il grande chattering che non mi ha permesso di realizzare un buon tempo per entrare in superpole.

Domani per me sarà un’incognita considerando che, a causa del rallentamenti del lavoro per eliminare il saltellamento, non ho potuto effettuare una vera simulazione di gara.

Vorrei davvero ringraziare il team che per permettermi di avere un buon feeling con la moto  ha lavorato davvero sodo tutta la giornata.

Ci resta ancora il warm up di domattina per poter limitare il problema e il team è già pronto con nuove soluzioni da testare”.

FRANCESCO MASTRANDREA (Direttore Tecnico): “La giornata della squadra di Regis è stata molto positiva, siamo riusciti a creare una ciclistica ideale per sfruttare il nuovo forcellone, portando la moto fino alle prime posizioni.

Purtroppo per Makoto sono emersi problemi di chattering che pensavamo risolti con le ultime modifiche ma, le condizioni particolari di grip di questo circuito, non hanno permesso di trovare al momento una soluzione ideale al problema. Il warm up sarà decisivo domani per trovare rimedio a questo inconveniente ”.

It was a day rich of satisfaction for the French rider Regis Laconi of Kawasaki PSG-1 Corse team at Salt Lake City’s track, Utah. He solved the chattering problem that had been persisting and improved by finishing 3rd in 2nd qualifying, but on Sunday he will start from the second row of the grid after finishing 7th in Superpole.

Makoto Tamada, was surprised by the amount of chatter which has never annoyed him before and is not very happy by his performances and being classified 18th on the gird.

It was also a good performance achieved by Ayrton Badovini of Kawasaki Pedercini team who qualified 16th and will start from the 4th row.

REGIS LACONI #55: “I’m really happy with my performance and with the team’s hard work. We used the same swing arm we used in Monza round but on this fairly bumpy track the results are much more convincing. Today we almost eliminated the chattering which made me not able to ride as I want too.

We have found the ideal set up for this track which gives a great stability and makes the bike much more manageable and resulted in the 3rd place in the 2nd qualifying session.

In the Superpole I still improved and tomorrow I will start from the 2nd row”.

MAKOTO TAMADA #100: “We tried lots of solutions but we still couldn’t solve the chattering problem which resulted in me being unable to achieve a good time to make the Superpole. I don’t know what will happen tomorrow because, due to the chattering which has slowed our progression I couldn’t find the solution and achieve a real race simulation.

I really want to thank my team for the hard work they did to increase my feeling with the bike. We still have tomorrow morning’s warm-up session where we will test another possible solution in order to solve the inconvenient”.

FRANCESCO MASTRANDREA (Technical Director): “It has been a positive day for Regis and his team. We succeeded in making an ideal frame geometry, perfect with this swing arm. Unfortunately Makoto continued to have the chattering problems that we thought were solved after last changes but the particular grip conditions on this track don’t seem permit to us to find a good solution to the problem. Tomorrow morning’s warm up will be decisive in finding out if it can be sorted”.

Oggi, Domenica 1 Giugno, sul Circuito di Miller Motorsports Park a Salt Lake City, è stata una giornata davvero intensa per il team di San Marino Kawasaki PSG-1 Corse. La caduta di Regis Laconi in gara 1 non ha compromesso il morale della squadra che ha saputo ripristinare le regolazioni ideali sulla moto finita a terra, dando la possibilità al pilota francese di portarsi tra i primi 10 in gara 2. 

Makoto Tamada ha risollevato la situazione di gara 1, nella quale a seguito di un forte grip termina in 19a posizione, ed in gara 2 migliora piazzandosi al 13° posto.

La grande rivelazione del team Kawasaki Pedercini è Ayrton Badovini che torna a casa dalla trasferta statunitense pieno di soddisfazioni e con 4 punti in più in classifica.

REGIS LACONI #55: “In gara 1 sono partito bene, ma il lungo rettilineo non mi ha permesso di mantenere la posizione conquistata. Dopo il primo giro, ho recuperato la mia 7a piazza, ed ho cominciato a tirare al limite il mio passo migliore fino al 5°  giro, nel quale all’uscita della curva 1, la moto ha cominciato a derapare violentemente, arrivando a strattonarmi ed infine a catapultarmi in aria. E’ stata una brutta caduta che ha provocato uno stiramento all’adduttore sinistro e vari ematomi sulla schiena.

Il dolore era tanto, ma fermo sulla moto, potevo provare a finire gara 2. Dopo una buona partenza  sono riuscito a mantenere un buon ritmo di gara e considerate le mie condizioni, sono contento di essermi piazzato 9°  e di aver lottato fino alla fine con Nieto e Kionari”.

MAKOTO TAMADA #100: “In gara 1 non siamo riusciti a trovare la regolazione ideale per eliminare il forte chattering che mi ha impedito di risalire la classifica.

In gara 2 sono partito male ma con le regolazioni decise tra gara 1 e 2, sono riuscito a mantenere un buon ritmo, risalendo fino alla 12a piazza.

Dobbiamo lavorare tanto per trovare la strada giusta ed ottenere un buon risultato in Germania.

La squadra tecnica è stata perfetta ed ha lavorato giorno e notte per adattare le varie modifiche decise”

FRANCESCO MASTRANDREA  (Direttore Tecnico): “In gara 1 Makoto ha lamentato chattering sia alle gomme anteriori che posteriori così la squadra si è subito preparata per gara 2. I tecnici hanno modificato la geometria della moto e l’idraulica, dando la possibilità al pilota di ritrovare il feeling con la moto.

Regis purtroppo è stato vittima di una pericolosa caduta che ha compromesso gara 1.

In gara 2 pur non essendo al 100% delle sue condizioni fisiche, ha portato a termine la gara con un ottimo rendimento e passo.”

Sunday – Races

Today, Sunday 1st June, at Miller Motorsports Park track in Salt Lake City, it has been a quite intense day for the Kawasaki PSG-1 Corse team. Regis Laconi crashed  in race 1 but it didn’ t compromise the team’s morale which succeeded in restoring the ideal regulations on the fallen bike and gave to the French rider the possibility to end race 2 among the first ten riders.

Makoto Tamada finished race 1 in 19th position but he raised the situation in race 2 where he placed 13th. 

Ayrton Badovini of Kawasaki Pedercini team can return home from the USA full of satisfactions and with 4 more points in the championship.

REGIS LACONI # 55: “ I made a good start in race 1 but the long straight resulted in me being unable to maintain the conquered position. After the first lap I recovered the 7th placement gained at the start and I began to push as much as I could until the 5th lap where, at the first bend the bike started to slip a lot until it unhorsed me. It has been a bad crash which caused me a sprain and lots of bruises on my back. It was really painful but, I felt I could finish the race once I was on the bike. After a good start I maintained a good race pace and considering my physical conditions I’m really satisfied of my 9th placement and happy that I fought until the end with Nieto and Kiyonari”.

MAKOTO TAMADA #100: “ In race 1 we still hadn’t an ideal regulation to avoid the chattering and I’ve been unable to achieve a good position. In race 2, after we adopted some new regulations decided between race 1 and 2, I conquered the 12th position even after the bad start I made.

We have to work a lot to obtain a positive result in next round in Germany.

I want to thank my technicians, they have been perfect and worked day and night to adapt all the variations decided in these last days”.

FRANCESCO MASTRADREA (Technical Director): “ In race 1 Makoto accused chattering both on front and rear tyre so the team started immediately to prepare the bike for race 2. The mechanics modified the frame geometry of the bike giving to the rider the possibility to find the right feeling with his bike.

Unfortunately Regis badly crashed compromising race 1. In race 2 even if he wasn’t at the top of his physical conditions he ended the race with a good result maintaining a great race pace”.
